People calculated that Tang Wei in "Lust, Caution" wore in total 27 pairs of cheongsam, which broke the record in "In the Mood for Love" by Maggie Cheong who wore 23 pairs only.
Some critics suggested director Wong Kai-wai used the different variations of cheongsam to emphasize the style of decadent romatic feels in the 1950s, while Ang Lee in "Lust, Caution" used the different dresses to highlight the change of situations and status faced by the main actress.
After the spy training last for several months, Wang Zhi played by Tang Wei re-invented herself to becoming a sexually mature woman.   Accessories, the perm, stockings, necklaces, earrings, watches, handbags, heels in matching the different cheongsams, Wang Zhi appears in the movie as in the original moval a very seductive character.
